Didn't ESPN contract with Brostool a few years ago to do a show only to realize what the fuck they'd just done and pull the plug?

If ESPN had jumped aboard the betting freight train at the outset, maybe it would have secured the demographic it's now desperately chasing through McAfee.

As one of the true degenerates of the board, I absolutely do. ESPN, as a “legitimate” news operation, has no business being in this business.
Too many lines crossed in having the faces of their hosts - who are often on programs that focus on injuries and scoops.

I don't understand why ESPN spends so much for shows that are on while people are working.

With McAfee, wasn't he a radio/podcast? So put him on TV at a fixed time.

    My uneducated and speculative guess.

People are working at those hours but they do travel, they’re in gyms and the go out to eat lunch.

ESPN spends money on those morning/late morning/midday shows as it is the “default” in thousands of bars. Busy airports. Exposure to millions of people each day who aren’t sitting down to watch.

However, the moment a host/show gets too edgy, ESPN doesn’t keep it for long or has issues with the host. Colin, LeBatard, like McAfee one day. There’s a reason Mike Greenberg will never get suspended. He will also never be interesting.

Even with the cord-cutting, their money is made off people who don’t even watch. My mom is the prime example. She has the full cable package — all the sports channels. She pays $95-100 a year for ESPN a year. Only person I ever see her watching is Sanjay Gupta and wondering where Chris Cuomo is.

There are millions of grandmothers who do this across the nation.

I think that’s true and also that ESPN has made the decision to build their non-live sports brand around big personalities because — McAfee fits along with SAS, Greeny, SVP, etc. He plays to a younger demographic which I’m guessing is who has the time to sit around and watch the show.

They suspended goodness-knows how many of their own people for far less, yet ...

... so are they that scared of offending McAfee's fans ... or are trying to refuse to acknowledge that they overpaid for a complete blowhard, knowing the obvious personnel and financial sacrifices The Mouse made to put this crap on the air?

I'm old, but I really don't understand how anyone watches the screaming shows on any network. I don't get the appeal of watching some semi-literate, tank top-wearing goober on TV. I have never watched one second of McAfee or Screamin' A, or Skip or Cowturd or any of their ilk. And I never will. Then again, I'm not in their desired demographic, so no loss either way.

Rick Reilly and Katie Nolan giggle from their mattresses full of Bristol cash.
