NY3 was a national bellwether; previous Red seat, Santos was a clown before being ousted and the voters STILL voted for him and went red. Minimize it all you want but it shows that a suburban district is tired of the red clowns, the ones that support the one who’s Un-American, who can’t be trusted, who’s been indicted, who spits on POW heroes, the one who incited a riot on the Capitol. Voters are keeping receipts and every one of these reds are going to be thrown out. The one who covered up the wrestling abuse? They’re coming for you soon enough too.

 

What makes NY3 even bigger for Dems is that the weather was terrible, which usually favors Republicans, and Republicans tend to vote overwhelmingly on election day anyway. So for Suozzi to hold his own on same-day balloting says a lot considering those factors.

 

NY-3 is a purple district with a relatively popular veteran politician beating a novice after George Santos quit. I wouldn’t extrapolate too much from this.

 

The only reason the House has a GOP majority is that in 2022 Democratic voter turnout in New York and California was abysmal. Yesterday in the very part of New York that cost Democrats seats they did turn out. That isn't that an epochal turn of events, but it does have some significance.

 

I don't think any of us can top this summary by political reporter Dave Weigel on twitter. "The message of NY3 is clear. Suburban voters want Joe Biden to be even older."
