Deadspin editor quits, blasts G/O management

This is a bit of good news. Tyler Rogoway ran the old Foxtrot Alpha military blog under the Gawker banner some years ago. He broke away to start The War Zone site, which operated within The Drive, an automotive site. Now he's announced The War Zone is successful enough to branch out on its own.
Rogoway and his team do some outstanding work. The War Zone has been a go-to site for Ukraine and Israel updates without the political angles. In a rare bonus, the commenters also tend to add a lot to the discussion. It's good to see their efforts rewarded.

Deadspin 2.0 was like when Bea Arthur left The Golden Girls and they created a CBS spinoff called The Golden Palace. You were never recapturing what the original had and it was probably silly to try.

Spanfeller also misspelled Deadspin as "Deadpin."​

 

The last line is pretty good too.

One way to interpret Spanfeller's explanation of the sale is that the new buyers were willing to pay an avaricious moron to inherit the enormous mistake he committed four years ago. I don't know if there's a second interpretation.​
