I cringe whenever we have to go some place (eye doctor, for example) when somebody will be calling my wife's name.

The daggers coming out of her eyes when she hears "Roh-ma-NOH-va" . . .

 

A couple Olympics ago, the goalie of the Croatian water polo team was named Bijac. Based on my limited knowledge of Slavic language and the live broadcast, I was thoroughly amused, but a friend raised in Macedonia observed the proper pronounciation was not "Bee-yotch" but rather "Bee-yots."

 

It's western arrogance if somebody struggles to properly pronounce a name? Man, I better let the folks who run my favorite Chinese restaurant they are arrogant for mispronouncing my name!

It would be nice if a female GOP politician didn’t use their status as a mother as some sort of get out of jail free card for every vile or stupid thing which they say or do.
