I'd add Kobe Bryant's death to the list.

If that bullet landed an inch or two another way, he likely would have died on the operating table, right?

That's the first NCAA championship game I remember, for obvious reasons. My Mom wondered why they were playing. As always, she was spot-on.

I was working in PR in the Arena Football League (insert jokes here) in Milwaukee where our coach was Lou Saban. The morning of the 13th, my punk GM, who was barely out of puberty, decided to can Saban after an 0-4 start. The next day, I get a call from the PR guy with the Bills, who was my mentor, telling me that NBC LA is about to announce O.J. is the top suspect and to brace Saban for the onslaught of national media. Joke's on them, we canned him and he's packing to get out of town. Spent the next week deflecting the types of Inside Edition, etc. wanting to interview him. Most media attention the team ever got.

Yep, I'd put Kobe up around Cobain.

Another (alleged) criminal let off the hook. The slurpage that followed his death and his Hall of Fame induction was pathetic.

Awesome story. Was the Bills' PR guy Bud Thalman, by chance? Or had he already moved on to Penn State?

It was Denny Lynch. Bud was already at State College.
