I heard about Lennon and John Bonham the next day (a couple months apart) as I had an early bedtime as a kid and wasn't on the news teat quite yet.

I almost lived Columbia as it happened on a Saturday morning in practically my backyard. One of my photogs actually drove to East Texas looking for earlobes or actuators or whatever. That dude was a freak.

Jacko and Whitney Houston were holy sh#t moments because they crossed the wire while I was on the desk. Heard about Prince while driving to a fringe school for a state golf story.

An interesting read. It wasn't that black people thought he was innocent, it was that they KNEW the LAPD was racist. Written on the 10 year anniversary in 2005. You can't take the Rodney King stuff out of the OJ case - the white cops were acquitted by a mostly white jury - OJ was the closest thing to "justice" the black community got on the thing - which is so messed up given how little he was invested in the black community.

Frankly, I expected something better from Lukovich - a nice contrast to the trite "St. Peter's" editorial cartoons you see, but it is still hackery nonetheless.

And if I see one more "complicated" reference to OJ in a headline- I'm gonna.....(do someithing)

I was boarding the bus at my suburban Minneapolis junior high school when I heard about Reagan. One of the three black kids in the school (the particular area where I grew up is profoundly more diverse these days), who had moved to the Twin Cities from Chicago and was a frequent visitor to the principal's office, jumped on the bus joyfully shouting "Reagan got shot! Reagan got shot!".
