I’ve seen a November election date bandied about but who knows how reliable it is.

When it becomes more about the protests - rather than the thing being protested - its time to throw in the towel. Back in college some students built "shanties" in front of the student union to symbolize apartheid - homeless folks eventually moved into them "free digs" - the cops showed up one Saturday night and tore them down - then it was about the cops tearing down the shanties and nobody was talking about South Africa anymore.

I pointed out that yesterday was Earth day, and if those college students wanted to do something actually beneficial, they would do trash pickups and environmental cleanups. But doing stuff that actually benefits the planet requires you to put your phone down which means you can't get social media likes.

That train passed the first time somebody put a grieving country's flag as his/her Facebook profile image. Instant "support," and oh, so many likes.

Why are these national stories? Leftover effects of anti-war protests on campuses during Vietnam? Because of the proximity to network HQs in NYC? Because some Ivy Leaguers are involved? The vast majority of college campuses do not have any protests happening on them. But certain sectors make it sound like they are happening from the University of Alabama to Xavier.

There should not be any protests at graduation ceremonies, unless they are protesting graduating ceremonies.
