The 1972 team of course won 33 in a row and brings back this tale after the streak ended in Milwaukee:

Laker coach Bill Sharman was surprised to see Times sportswriter Mal Florence, bags packed, leaving the team hotel in Milwaukee on a January day in 1972.

Florence had been following the team on its winning streak, which had reached a record 33 games before Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the Milwaukee Bucks had ended it the previous day, 120-104.

“Where are you going, Mal?” Sharman asked.

“I don’t cover losers,” snapped back Florence, without breaking stride.

Phil Collins has no chance in any newspaper in West Virginia today.

Now that he’s gone they’ll replace him on the logo.

Blame the Lakers, apparently. Good colm by Plaschke: Plaschke: Laker legend Jerry West's final legacy sadly includes estrangement from Lakers

Scott Ostler on West and how, as we've discussed elsewhere, how "Winning Time" did him dirty. Gifted link.

Who was Jerry West, really? An iconic NBA character who got a bad rap on TV

Another gem from this morning's Green: Warriors were looking at trading Klay Thompson to Minnesota for Kevin Love after losing in seven to the Clippers in 2014. West, then an adviser to the Warriors, objected vehemently, to the brink of threarening to resign. Don't even want to think about what might have happened if they ignored him.
