MAGA folks have now issued four (4) explanations for what Trump really meant when he said that.

 

If you are young, educated and even somewhat left-of-center, you GTFO of those states ASAP. The brain drain there is very real. The majority of the smartest kids get their education for just about free at the state college, then head for Denver, DC, Minneapolis, Austin, Seattle and whatever big city is closest to Kentucky, Nashville maybe?

Edit: There is a very good book about the brain drain in Iowa, I can't remember the name and I'm too lazy to google it. But it explains it well, and also helps explain why small-town local government is sometimes so whacko, because the smart kids have all left.

 

Nashville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis. Maybe St. Louis if you are from the far western end of the state. So pretty much MAGA all the way down.

(Louisville and Lexington themselves are quite blue, not unlike the other cities listed.)
