I am not a huge golf fan, but wasn't one of our biggest Ryder Cup problems that our superstars (TIGER) played like Gil Hodges in the 1952 World Series instead of the superstars they were purported to be? Superstars shouldn't go 13-21-3 (.392).

Five-man playoff at the opposite field event in Kentucky for those inclined. I put $5 on Hoey mid round at +400, so my rooting interests lie there. It’s over if he just hits the damn green on 18. Instead, it drips into the penalty area and he ends up taking bogey.

It was a million degrees, but got to play most of Robert Trent Jones GC today before we got chased off by lightning with two holes to play. What a stunning property. It's going to be a phenomenal host site for the Solheim Cup. The views along Lake Manassas starting at the par-3 9th are just spectacular and are going to look incredible on TV. Did not watch the Presidents Cup when it was there because I wasn't that deep into golf at that point. Also, RTJ loves some bunkers. So many bunkers. I must have hit into at least 55 percent of them today.

Believe me, I almost never have much to brag about on a golf course. But walking uphill to the final green to see this after hitting 3-wood from 175 out or so … it’s one of those moments that reminds us why we play the game.

P.S. — for the record, I made the putt. Finished off a 47 on the back nine, after a rough start (56) on the front.

Sounds like a great place to reposition the Stonewall Jackson statue removed from Monument Avenue.

I told a buddy a long time ago that if bad shots are going to piss him off, then at least enjoy the good shots as much as you can. It’s advice I try to follow myself but sometimes forget (especially on days it’s not going so well.

Had a “why we play” day myself today. Regular golf partner couldn’t play. So I went out early by myself. Got grouped with three other singles. A man from Bogota, Columbia, who was visiting his daughter and playing with rented clubs. An older Japanese man who lives on the Upper West Side. And a 20-something dude from Brooklyn.

Four people with very different backgrounds. But easy conversation. Golf talk. The man from Bogota didn’t like the rented putter. So the dude from Brooklyn shared his putter, the same model the man plays in his own bag.

We all played about the best we can play, I think. And it was a gorgeous day. Why we play.

(I might be romanticizing the day a bit because I played really well, for me. That always puts me in a great mood).

Neither here nor there but at the range met Kaylyn Kyle, Saskatoon native and soccer bronze medalist for Canada in 2012 and current studio host for AppleTV, and her husband, former pro Harrison Heath. It's nice that midfielders can find each other in this big world; they have two little midfielders at home. Hubby could play golf or anything else blindfolded but Kaylyn is only up to the "OH F-CK!" stage of her golf career.

There's no way in hell this clown breaks 100 on a real course. What the hell is with that putting stroke?
