Maybe people weren't so fat and in poor health all those years ago because Big Agri like Monsanto had figured out to to genetically modify plants and livestock and push high fructose corn syrup on consumers in the name of squeezing every penny out of every aspect of producing a basic necessity humans need: food.

And portions were smaller, fast food wasn't yet a major thing, more people worked physically demanding jobs and people were just a couple of years removed from food rationing in WWII. They also didn't have air conditioning, so even if they lived a sedentary lifestyle they were sweating out calories while doing so.

 

Throw in the fact that in the areas where it's a problem, a good portion of the population isn't smart enough not to go eat a $5 Biggie Bag four nights a week.

 

My dad grew up on a dairy farm in the 1930s. Pretty sure he got more exercise as a kid than I did coming home from school and watching The Flintstones.

 

In yesteryear, the calories we burned walking uphill both ways to school in deep snow pretty much burned up what we got from the baked potato we kept in our pocket to keep our hands warm that we later ate for lunch.

 

As Starman would say, 400 million guns.

 

It would be really super neato-o if the entire Kennedy family would just go the fukc away and disappear.
