I believe Bill and Hillary Clinton might have made a few monologues over the years as well.

 

Nixon was regularly tweaked by teevee comedians after "you won't have Nixon to kick around anymore" in 1962.

Vaughan Meader, for Christ's sake, was a national comedy sensation for much of 1963 ... until Nov. 22.

 

You know, if Zager & Evans was playing in the bathroom while that was going on, I might have to re-think some things about my potty breaks on the road.

 

The answer of course is that they didn’t mind so much because they were not emotionally invested to this degree in politicians they voted for.

 

I don’t know if anyone remembers a show in the early 80s called Fridays. It was a Saturday Night Live knockoff with Larry David, Michael Richards and Melanie Chartoff. The used to mercilessly mock Reagan. I doubt Reagan even knew the show existed.

For a short window, the cool kids were watching "Fridays" instead of SNL.
