MLB '24 Regular Season Thread

GRITTY! We're just in disbelief. It's like waking up Christmas morning and getting something you dreamed of but never expected.

I'm not sure how all the permutations work out, but I'm pretty sure the Orioles-Tigers matchup is now set in the 4-5 wildcard bracket in the AL.

 

Bring it.

 

I'd challenge most people to name three guys on this team.
It's been built to last, too. At least within the short realm of pro sports.

That's an impressive run by the Tigers. Didn't think they had that in them. Most importantly, I didn't think AJ Hinch had it in him. Wrong again! Congrats to our DetroitSJ.com members.

 

Also, congrats to the White Sox on officially being the suckiest bunch of sucks who ever did suck. One hundred and twenty-one losses!!

 

Royals have the tiebreaker, so if KC wins one more game than DET over Saturday and Sunday, they'd play the Orioles and Detroit would go to Houston.

 

It is not. But it is almost certain to happen.
Tigers up 1 on Royals with 2 left. Royals hold tiebreaker. White Sox have to win again in 2024 in order to prevent the O’s-Tigers pairing.

 

O's and Tigers played their entire season series over the course of the previous two weekends with Detroit winning both series two games to one. Both Orioles wins came with Corbin Burnes pitching, who allowed only five hits in 14 shutout innings over the two starts, striking out 15.

With a spot secure it seems unlikely that Detroit would start Skubal as scheduled on Sunday afternoon, capping a pretty damned good regular season in which he went 18-4 with a 2.39 ERA and has lost one decision since late June. Cole Ragans of KC appears to be lined up to start Sunday as well, but if he sits or strikes out less than six, Skubal will lead the American League in wins, ERA (by nearly a half-run) and strikeouts (228 in 192 innings).

Tigers haven't seen the Astros since mid-May (in Detroit) and mid-June (in Houston), losing two of three in both series.

 

Tigers took both series with the Orioles even though Skubal didn't pitch in either. They're looking unbeatable.

Curious factoid here. Unless the O's sweep the Twins, which is possible, they'll become the first team in history to make the playoffs while posting losing records in July, August and September.

 

Weather wise in Michigan for the next two weeks, no extended periods of rain and no temperatures below the mid-60s, so if the Tigers advance out of the WC round, conditions should be ok.
