I hate my phone keyboard. Can I please get a correct spelling on Mutombo in the thread title?

Wow — so young. He’s wagging a finger at Satan as he goes through the pearly gates.

In 1994 I was in overseas during the playoffs and in those pre-internet times aIl I knew was that the Nuggets were behind 3-1 and I assumed facing elimination against the Sonics. On my flight back to the states I passed a bar on my way to pick up my bags and saw the Nuggets were playing on a Sunday. I thought to myself, what the hell are the Nuggets doing on television, because they should have been eliminated by now. So I went in and watched the fourth quarter of game seven against the number one seeded Sonics. I still remember Mutombo laying on the floor after the victory, screaming in joy. Speaking as a Denverite who went to Nuggets games in their first season at age 10 that was probably the franchise highlight until the championship.

I am still bitter the Nuggets undervalued him and let him leave for a better contract.

Helluva center who I sometimes think of whenever I see someone destroy another poster in an internet argument. (i.e. “He/She/They just Mutomboed that into the fifth row”).

    RIP

I met him in 2018 (I think) when his nephew, who lived around the corner from me, got drafted by the Nets and they threw a party for him. He couldn’t have been nicer. And obviously, just a giant.

It was. First round was best of five until the Lakers lost one year and got their feelings hurt and it was changed to best of seven.

When I worked at a TV station here a few years back, he came in for something that I can't remember. Got a picture with him. Great guy.

Edit: Damn, it was nine years ago.
