RIP John Ashton

Another good role he had was as Mac MacNally, the Twins' pitching coach and right-hand man to young manager Billy Heywood in "Little Big League."

He also had a small role as a henchman in an episode of "Police Squad." RIP.

 

He elevated Some Kind of Wonderful beyond the usual teen dreck.

 

"Smoking or non-smoking?"

Ashton's character - smoking a cigarette: "Take a wild guess."

This is the scene that always kills me in Midnight Run - every time. My goodness Phillip Baker Hall, forgot he was in it too. Also Jack Kehoe as the bail bonds flunky.

 

"Relax, Sidney, have a cream soda ..."

 

Grodin's line, when DeNiro is hot-wiring the car -- "You get it started, and I'll run you over. That's the best plan I can think of. -- is perfection. I'm not even sure why. But I laugh every time. He's so sincere and DeNiro just wants to pound him into the ground.

 

"Chorizo?"

"Why do they call you "Red"?

"These things go DOWN! It's TOO BIG!!!"

 

Joey Pants was good, also. (I know he doesn't like that name, but I don't want to look up the spelling of his last name.)

 

“The name’s Carmine, fucko.”

 

Hilarious and underrated line.

 

"Hey, scumbag ..."

"The name's Carmine, fucko ..."

"Well, Carmine, today's your lucky day ..."

"Why's today my lucky day?"
