Good Lord. The Yucatan is going to be decimated, to say nothing of Florida. Be safe everyone.

I’d be on a plane to Toronto.

Uncle says it's too late for him to leave Fort Myers. He's got generators and tequila.

I fled Gulfport, Miss. 24 hours prior to Katrina making landfall.
Lived a block off the beach.
If I'd stayed, I'd be dead.
You don't mess around with these monsters. Drive to Iowa, if you can.

    Fairbanks might be safer.

Really? Why too late? I get it's a massive exodus, but Fort Myers is on the wrong side of this thing.

And he lives about a fairway and a half from the main channel. And it's going to be high tide. Says gas stations are out of gas and roads are packed.

I told him it's 3 hours to Boca, but he's not listening.

JFC. Get up at 2 a.m. I'm sorry. Hope he makes it. I'd be freaking out if I was still living in Florida -- and I was north of Miami not near the ocean.

I have family and friends in Pinellas, and those that are not in evacuation zones are staying. Everyone who has been told to leave has GTFO. Last I heard, they are calling for evacuations of zones A, B and C, along with all mobile homes. The authorities actually don’t want people outside of the listed zones — which are determined by elevation — to leave because it further chokes already clogged highways and leads to the risk of being trapped on the roads when the storm hits.

If you’re in an evacuation zone and staying, hope you write your SSN on your arm in Sharpie.

My mom is in Winter Haven visiting a friend right now. She’s “hunkering down,” but she has not a single survival instinct in her body. Her friend has lived there all her life, so hopefully she can be a steady captain through all of this.

It's sad how much my life this time of year revolves around 5 a.m./11 a.m./5 p.m./11 p.m.

I was getting major pissed when the NHC's interactive graphic (which you can zoom in on and shows more detail) took until 5:05 to load properly.

"Hooray! The track nudged a tenth of a degree to the south!"
