Abdul Salaam, who was the lesser known member of the Jets’ Sack Exchange defensive line of the late 70s/early 80s, died at age 71. He had been ill for a long time.

Apropos of little, about 20 years ago in my pre-satellite radio days, I was listening to Rome (scorn me, I deserve it) and they were doing one of those stupid Smack Offs.

Whatever Smack Off they were doing had some dude presumably going against a Jets fan and he threw out Abdul Salaam out of the clear blue sky and I'll admit I did spit out my drink because I hadn't heard the name in ages and it was a solid reference.

I also briefly thought Abdul Salaam was the Jets defensive player from that era who went full right-wing batshit, but I think that's Burgess Owens.

    RIP Abdul Salaam.

If you are a Jets fan of a certain age, when his name is mentioned, there is a reflex to immediately say “The Soldier of Peace”. RIP
