    I always liked the story in one of Madden’s books where Bill Parcells, in his first year with the Giants, said he was nervous about telling Madden anything in their production meeting because he knew Madden and Robinson were good friends.

    Madden told Parcells that he wouldn’t reveal secrets to anyone and that the first time that he ever did so, he’d get fired.

    Madden told a story about trying to convince Robinson not to draft Dickerson. His reasoning was that Dickerson would have trouble running on grass. He kept saying this and Robinson finally said, “he can run on grass. He can run in a gravel pit. A beach. A wheat field. It won’t matter.”

    First college game I ever saw in person was a USC road game during his 2.0 phase. RIP.

    Funny how, now that the old AstroTurf is gone, we never hear any more he's a "turf guy" assessments. If they have speed, it's apparent on natural turf or artificial surfaces.
