The U.S. legal system often errs on the side of defendant rights, especially if that person has money and doesn't care about the attorney costs for more motions and delays. The Trump University lawsuits, for example, started in 2010 and didn't even make it to trial - Trump settled in late 2016 and the payout was in first quarter 2017. This is not unique to Trump.

He also got zero transition assistance for the longest time while the other side tried to sabotage the constitution. They couldn’t, but they laid the groundwork for a core army of right wing resistance to reactivate four years later.

Speaking of dubious credentials, JD Vance has all of two years under his belt as an elected official in any capacity. The rest were spent in private equity or typing up press releases in the desert. When he climbs on top of Trump’s coffin to become Supreme Leader, I’m sure it will all work out swell.

    I'm not denigrating Biden's timeframe.

    I'm only saying . . . it's Nov. 13, for crying out loud.

Nobody has his cabinet in place before the last SEC vs. directional school matchup in November.

Meeting with GOP today in D.C., the NYT reports that Trump said this:

Mr. Trump, who is limited to two terms as president by the Constitution, joked, “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say, ‘He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out.”

Joked. This from the outlet that continually said "suggested" ... "stated without fact" ... "claimed without..." and other phrases instead of using "lied about."

He's already angling to stick around if he makes it through the next four years.

Reelecting him will prove to be the most short-sighted electoral action and the largest nervous breakdown in American history.

My laissez-faire attitude has quickly disappeared as the news of some of his appointments have come through. I'm not particularly proud to be an American right now, nor will I be for some time. I don't know if our institutions can survive the sustained assault that is to come from all three branches of government.

I'm still largely in the "they bought the ticket, let them take the ride" mindset. If the MAGA voters don't feel how bad it will get firsthand, how else will they learn?

I recognize my mindset could be healthier, and it's certainly not any outcome I'd wish for all else being equal, but I don't know how any of this otherwise ever changes.
