Without going back to look, I'd guess that's the norm most years. Once you get outside the top 8-10 teams there's probably always been one or two with two losses. Now, when you have so many of them playing each other in conference games, it'll almost certainly be the norm. The good thing is that a team like Ole Miss or Tennessee, that would've effectively been playing out the string at this point, still has a chance to claw its way back in.
This is what we've wanted for 50 years.

I imagine a few from Western Pa will be doing the PSU on the 20th/21st, Steelers Christmas Day twin bill.

I was thinking more in terms of the semester being over, and people who usually work games at the stadium not being available.

The interesting weather is a plus in my book … as you are aware, most of the FCS playoff teams manage to deal with it.

Students probably are not going to get free tickets for these home playoff games. No way do they give away 5K or more freebies when there is money to be made.

There is a Power 2, a Middle Class 2 and the groundlings. I’m not saying that’s healthy for the sport but it is the reality on the ground.

They're past the free football ticket era, $35.00 a game 7 game regular season ticket package, can be resold in an exchange, all done digital. Nothing on their web site about playoffs.

We were paying face value to sit in the student section at the SEC Championship Game 30 years ago. But they set aside a ticket block for us to purchase after camping out all night. TV absolutely wants the students and bands there for all the atmosphere shots. That’s why they bring in ringers for March Madness if travel or logistics is prohibitive for those groups.

Definitely some juggling with stadium personnel and such, but can't see many problems given all the money to be had. I filled out a ticket request for a potential game at Indiana and ticket prices ranged from $100-$250, higher of course than reg season though I thought they might be even higher. If IU has a home game against an SEC school the secondary market will be humming.

Then again, I can see IU's 52,000-seat stadium doing them no favors with the committee when it's time to actually assign games.

I also think after we do this two-year run to end the first TV contract that if they stick with 12, they'll move the start of the season back a week so the first round of the playoffs will be the second weekend in December to avoid the NFL like they are this year and next.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention before but what is the point of making a ranking and not putting it in the seeding for what the bracket will be -- like what's the point of putting BYU 14th when you know they have to have a spot?

Maybe I'm not understanding your question, but if/when someone drops, the "ranking" is where they will drop from.

Right now Miami (rank 8/seed 3) is in. If they lose another, they'll drop from 8 to likely out of the rankings. So no one will be saying, "How could they drop all the way out of the rankings from No. 3?"

The rankings just give a foundation, and you build the bracket with all the automatic qualifiers/seedings from those rankings.

The SEC standings are going to put the tiebreakers to serious use. If I did the math correctly, ESPN's individual game odds say there's a 94% chance that three or more teams will be tied for one or both championship game spots. There's a 0.47% chance that there are no title-relevant ties and a 0.03% chance that two teams are free and clear at 6-2 with nobody at 7-1.
