Arguably one of the greatest nights in SJ history. Without this place, I doubt many papers would have gotten the story in the next day's paper. I know I learned about it here before the AP moved anything on it.

Wow, I feel old. Doesn’t seem like it should have been 15 years ago.

I was in the Hockeytown Cafe in downtown Detroit
One of our stringers worked there
I was talking to her and she looked at the TV and said: “Somebody just punched a fan at the Pistons game.”

Jesus, i don't remember half of that.

I hate when there is a fight in the upper deck, or at Disneyland, and everybody says, "Where is the security?" I don't expect security to be everywhere.

But in this case, WHERE'S THE SECURITY???
The stuff at 0:50 is front and center of the arena. Good lord, where is the security?

I remember one writer in Indy was sniffing around writing a book on it several years ago but Artest and some others didn't want to talk about it, even 7-8 years after the fact. But now, maybe they would. Could be a heckuva read, along the lines of Feinstein's "The Punch."

Yep. Donaghy was on the scorers table, and also walking with O'Neill.
I can just hear Donaghy now.
"OK. Gimme 3:1 for $500 on whoever Stephen Jackson is fighting. I'll give you 5:1 for $1000 on whoever Artest is wailing on up there. Kevin, you want a part of Ben Wallace for $2000? He's got some poor some bitch in a head lock. Larry wants it at 5:1......you gotta beat 7:1......FUCK YOU......I ain't doing this shit for nothing!"

    Happy 20th Anniversary!

Tried to find the original thread, but this was the best I could do.

I don't think I've ever been more crushed as a sports fan watching my favorite team, built to win a title, come apart at the seams.

But also it led to one of the most fun experiences I've had as a Pacers fan. I was home in Indy for Thanksgiving the following week and they had a back-to-back home stand over the holiday. I went to the second game with a buddy.

Reggie Miller was hurt and most of the team was suspended. Basically it was Jamaal Tinsley, Austin Croshere, the rookie draft pick and a bunch of dudes on 10 day contracts. They played their asses off. Fred Jones went off and the Fieldhouse was rocking.

I still don't fully comprehend how the King Shit-stirrer Jamaal Tinsley got out of Detroit without a suspension.

Original thread most likely went bye-bye in the last SJ post purge, which was in 2006.

The 2021 Netflix documentary, "Untold: Malice at the Palace" is pretty good.

I remember getting it in the paper and going out with co-workers to a bar to watch the continuing coverage. Whole thing kinda wrecked Reggie Miller's last season.

Amazing the original Bad Boys never got into something like this -- you'd think at some point Rodman would have run into the stands at Boston Garden or something.
