I think the NFL saw the talent of people like Archie Manning and said, "Wait. If a guy who slings it like that is throwing all those interceptions, maybe we should change the rules to forbid defenders from mugging wide receivers." It's amazing to see the difference in interception percentage over the decades.

Still a better dentist-athlete than Jack Miller.

Nine out of 10 dentists recommend not brushing with Crest while driving an Indycar.

I wonder if more accomplished IndyCar drivers (i.e. almost all of them, though this was the shitbird IRL after all, so who knows?) than Miller would mutter to themselves, "is it safe?" when they lapped Miller?

"Marathon Man" humor ... it's coming back!

No, it's not safe at all.

No it was not. Miller was only running at the finish in four of his 22 career races and never had a lead lap finish, though he did only crash out five times.

Miller and Marty Roth (9 finishes in 21 starts, no lead leap finishes, no laps led) are the Mears-Johncock, Unser-Goodyear, Hornish-Andretti photo finish of IndyCar suck. Even the rightfully-maligned Milka Duno looks like A.J. Foyt in comparison (22 finishes in 43 starts and five glorious laps led, which I witnessed in-person at Chicagoland Speedway).

I am one of a handful of humans who saw Milka Duno lead a lap, Zsolt Baumgartner earn a F1 point and to witness Tiago Monteiro on a F1 podium and I dig it.

I also like that a college football thread turned into an IndyCar-jack of all things.

    I'll bring it back.

Caveat, yes, I took Toledo ML at halftime at plus odds against Akron.

Toledo falls behind 14-0, ties it, gets the stop it needs, drives down the field, clearly content to set up the field goal. Fine. But if you're going to do that, and you have a shaky kicker who has already missed from a hash mark, maybe considering running into the MIDDLE of the line to set up the winning 29 yard kick, not the right hash. Dummies. Of course, the Toledo kid hit it dead straight and misses right, and Akron scores on its first OT play and gets a stop to win the game. I was, um, displeased with the outcome.

Sometimes tragedy is the only word that fits.
