Trump Finally Signs Transition Documents—With One Giant Catch | The New Republic

"After weeks of delays, the president-elect’s team has finally signed a standard transition agreement with the White House to start briefing staff members. But they are still refusing to sign two other key documents. One is a Justice Department agreement to let the FBI perform security clearances for transition team members. This means that the Biden administration still isn’t able to share classified information with anyone from Trump’s transition team. The Trump team also won’t sign the General Services Administration agreement, which provides secure office space and government email accounts.

Top Trump aide Susan Wiles explained the reasoning behind this refusal, stating that Trump wants his team to “operate as a self-sufficient organization. This organizational autonomy means a streamlined process that guarantees the Trump Administration is ready on Day 1.

“The transition already has existing security and information protections built in, which means we will not require additional government and bureaucratic oversight,” Wiles continued."

I realize Musk is on the spectrum, but the only reason I see for him to be leaning in on Trump is as a hedge against some part of his portfolio that is at risk. Twitter turned out to be a smart move because (like Bezos and the Post) it gave him a microphone to the public square of ideas. But I don't know if it is Tesla, or SpaceX or what, but his "investment" in Trump seems more about protecting what he has, that gaining more. I expect all those agencies with oversight into his companies will face the deepest DOGE streamlining attention.

Nah. They will blame Joe Biden when that happens. It could be deep into the Trump presidency and they will still do it.

Why do I think Trump 2.0 will be a lot like his speeches, a rambling, incoherent mess. You may call it "the Weave," but in truth the Administration will have a central prong of immigration enforcement - there will be plenty of video evidence (if not great numbers) of people of color being deported to satisfy his base, Trump will want to make "new deals" on the international front, because he's a dealmaker at heart. And the usual weekly commotion involving Trump, Musk RFKjr or others who suddenly realize actual governing is far different from tweeting.

Team Reagan blamed Carter for the S&L scandal that didn't fully explode until the Bush administration.

Quoting this for posterity sake to make fun of it in 2-3 years. Assuming free thought on sites like this is still available.
