Vaccines took a turn for the worse when they were made mandatory in many places . . . and the "other guy" was in charge when they were made mandatory.

When the new strains appeared that rendered the initial vaccine ineffective and required booster after booster after booster --- and even four-times boosted people still got COVID --- it was all over. Hell, I got one booster and said to hell with it after that.

Yeah, it would have been nice if it didn't take long-term studies of hospitalization and death rates to show the vaccine effectiveness, instead of "you've had the vaccine. Now you can go lick door handles at grocery stores and you won't get Covid."

But, alas, here we are. I think I did the same as you, one booster, then I'm good. It's not that I don't believe in the science of vaccines, though.

Do you not get a flu shot every year?

No. I've never had the flu. Haven't been raging fever sick since 1974 when I delivered newspapers in the rain one Saturday. Next day I was fine.

I don't begrudge anyone getting one. I'm just immunosupersized or something.

I get a flu shot in late October every year. I worked at a primary care doctor's office for years, with hundreds of sick people coughing and snotting around the place every week. I can't say I never got an upper respiratory infection, but overall I stayed healthy. I think I got my fifth Covid booster when I got this year's shot, I've lost track. I've had Covid once and have no desire to catch it again, and my wife and I both have various risk factors and she is immune impaired to boot. I look at those shots a cheap insurance.

I used to not get the flu shot each year. My doctor would ask, I'd shrug and if I got one, I got one. I got the initial covid jab and I think one of the boosters, maybe last year. I've had it at least three times; the worst was July 2022 when it felt like I'd been hit by a truck and couldn't stay hydrated.

As I've gotten older and am around my elderly parents and in-laws, and our young grandchild, I don't want to be the one to pass it along to one of them. I figure the shots are cheap insurance.

I have a grandchild on the way in the next few weeks, so I got the flu, Covid booster and TDAP booster jabs all at once about six weeks ago.

It really IS odd how much various media entities have been sucking up to Trump. I get it, they figure some flattery and a sizeable donation to the inaugural will save them some headaches, but I can't imagine how righties would be responding if the parade of fealty was ending at a Dem President-elects doorstep. I don't know who I feel comfortable trusting news-wise anymore.
