    Lovely guy, the father-in-law ...

Sky pulled into Jaime’s cul-de-sac and carried his go bag into the house. Nowhere could he sense the country’s political tensions escalating like inside his own family. He shared a house with his father, but they hadn’t spoken for 13 months, ever since his father accused Sky of being a “radical foot soldier” for Trump. His sister-in-law was transgender, but Sky refused to use new pronouns or change the way he talked, because, he said, he “didn’t believe in that PC crap.” His wife, a Democrat, had briefly considered moving out a few days after the election, accusing Sky of betraying their Hispanic grandchildren with his vote.

Understand that you're taking a victory lap over being right about something nobody here wanted.

RFK Jr. is insane and an anti-vaxxer. But Repugs don't care about that. He's pro-choice and hates Big Ag. Will those disqualify him when Donald Veruca Salt wants him in?

Donald wants him in .... until he doesn't.

He'll get tired of Elmo too just like he got tired of all the others like Chris Christie, Jeff Sessions, Bill Barr and the latest, Chris Wray.

He'll take Elmo's money and put the foot in the small of his back to kick him out of bed after he finishes,

I guess, but pretending that the thing nobody here wanted couldn't and wouldn't happen --- and ripping into anyone who suggested it might --- didn't do anybody any good.

It's the darndest thing. On most important happenings (COVID, hurricanes, climate change) we breathlessly post one doomsday scenario after another. And now that Trump has been elected, we're back to doing it again. But post something six weeks ago suggesting Harris might (gasp!) lose the election, and it's a bridge too far.

I’m glad that destruction of American excellence is cool because people thought that Trump couldn’t win.

The USPS is an interesting case. It has a monopoly on letters and parcel-wise, every other delivery company needs it at Christmas to l;ay off their excess. It just isn't allowed to act like a monopoly.

So post-privitization you either get a big ruthless monopoly or something that's fucked and debt-ridden, because it's still expected to be the delivery company of last resort.

“Oh, you want your Amazon packages before Christmas? That’ll be $100 per box.”

A guilty plea is by definition an admission of guilt.

    Innocent people don’t plead guilty.

The USPS is mandated by Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the US Constitution. The Founding Fathers intelligently figured one Federally-funded entity receiving and delivering the mail to all the states would be far superior to each state handling its mail, or to a private company that could charge whatever the traffic will bear, without government oversight.

Funny how the GOP thinks the FF were so smart some of the time, like when it fits their agenda, but they weren't smart setting up the USPS and that has to be destroyed.

The reason the USPS is "debt-ridden" is because it has to fund its pension system from its own revenues, something not asked of any other Federal entity.

    Never Forgive Them

You are the victim of a con — one so pernicious that you’ve likely tuned it out despite the fact it’s part of almost every part of your life. It hurts everybody you know in different ways, and it hurts people more based on their socioeconomic status. It pokes and prods and twists millions of little parts of your life, and it’s everywhere, so you have to ignore it, because complaining about it feels futile, like complaining about the weather.

It isn’t. You’re battered by the Rot Economy, and a tech industry that has become so obsessed with growth that you, the paying customer, are a nuisance to be mitigated far more than a participant in an exchange of value. A death cult has taken over the markets, using software as a mechanism to extract value at scale in the pursuit of growth at the cost of user happiness.

These people want everything from you — to control every moment you spend working with them so that you may provide them with more ways to make money, even if doing so doesn’t involve you getting anything else in return
