CHGO Sports lays off 5 front-facing staffers as part of new content plan, resource allocation

Judging by some tweets, seems the people affected learned about it from the paper breaking the story.

Sounds like The Fall Of ALLCITIES.

 

Based on the way the layoffs were described, I wonder if they pulled the plug on underperforming beats.

The sad part is that baseball and hockey coverage doesn't seem profitable enough for anyone to truly staff, which is mind-blowing to think about.

 

Unfortunately, it makes a lot of sense for the bean counterse. They've turned into niche sports. Acres and acres of open spaces in a lot of press boxes during the regular season.
