File under broken clock is right twice a day, but Trump coming out against the debt ceiling is something I can definitely get behind. It's an asinine, self-destructive construct that has become weaponized to the detriment of everyone.

I'm sure he's trying to weaponize it in his own way, but like I said, broken clock is right twice a day.

He's right for all the wrong reasons. He wants it raised now, because he doesn't want the GOP to be blamed when they raise it in March.

Been a while since I brought one of these here. Pretty solid analysis, although I do have a bone to pick. Trump isn't asking to raise the debt ceiling, he's lobbying for removing it altogether. I wonder why you would do that if you intend to reduce the deficit. Hmm.

Trump calls for abolishing the debt ceiling

Edit: I also think that the debt ceiling has become a stupid impediment and a tool of disruption. It is a relic of a time when bipartisan debate was possible. I just have a full expectation that if it is removed Trump will abuse the hell out of it.

Also as mentioned above, Trump wants lots of undesirable things passed before he is inaugurated so that he can blame Biden for the catastrophes which result.

Oh, they're working fine. What was I supposed to do, like it?

There might have been an edge of sarcasm in my reply, as well.

Whatever works. It needs to go. It needed to go 20 years ago. Democrats have been so chicken shit in not being more aggressive to get rid of it. Surprising, I know.

Musk will have carte blanche as long as he wants it; remember, he has all of the DMs from all Trump Twitter accounts.

I don't know who came up with the idea, but Biden catches a lot of blame for how things were done. I wanna throw some credit his way since I have no idea who was shrewd enough to get this past Johnson and the House Repubs. The last time there was a debt ceiling fight, when it was resolved, the new debt ceiling deal was set to expire not at the end of Biden's term but six months afterward. There is no way in hell that the D's negotiate that away. There's a Dem Senate until the inauguration, and Biden damn sure isn't going to sign a bill to change that.

If there are changes to the debt ceiling, it will have to be done by the Republicans alone. If it goes well, they'll get credit - but you know it won't, and many of them will catch hell for allowing it to increase after swearing oaths in blood to never allow it to be raised again and to lower the deficit. See Chip Roy, forex.
