I assume the tnt games were low rated balecause tnt, but the abc games were the 2nd and third highest rated games of the season

"Death quadrant?" Oregon is the No. 1 seed. It will play the winner of the 8-9 game. Isn't that how tournaments work?

Yeah, but the 8-9 seeds are actually ranked 6-7.

Late to the party, but Kirk Herbstreit acting like a grinch about the CFP first round was an embarrassment to his excellent legacy, and it may be he's reached the "I'm too good for this shit" stage of his career where he simply no longer likes what the sport is or has become, or likes what social media has done to the game or to him.

Other announcers - usually analysts, but not always - have reached that stage. I think Charles Barkley has, to be honest. But he's funnier about it than Herbstreit, who seems bitter and contemptuous of Ohio State (though not, somehow, Ryan Day) and of Curt Cignetti, who, yes, is a kn0w-it-all and a shit-talker.

All the years bitching about the BCS, then a four-team playoff, and now the first round of a 12-team playoff is not entertaining enough for the "experts"?

So we're really all going to pretend the opening round was good just so we can bang on someone from ESPN, huh?

No one liked the polls determining a national champion (or sometimes two) following the bowl season.
Then they didn't like the BCS, then the four-team playoff and now the 12-team playoff.

I see a trend here ... I just can't quite put my finger on it ...

The first round of the new playoff proved to me that they got it right. Teams 13 and 14 wouldn’t have been a better choice than any team that lost last weekend.

Tournaments usually work by the designated 6-7-ranked teams getting the 6-7 seeds, not being leapfrogged by teams ranked 9 and 12.
