I think I appreciate Norm a lot more now than I did then.

Whereas Colin Quinn slots in quite sensibly at No. 10, I would have felt even stronger about it if you had made it No. 173 or something.

On second thought, let me add where I'd slot in the earlier pairings.

To me, Chase remains the gold-plated standard. Even above Norm. Just the perfect soft touch on the smart-ass delivery. Which is what he was.

Curtin, then Curtin/Aykroyd, probably somewhere around 7. Jane was very focused on being above it all. And I think she legitimately hated it when Gilda would upstage her. Aykroyd made it better on one hand, but together, he and Curtin were sort of a one-trick pony, those ignorant sluts.

Charles Rocket is right down there with Quinn. And close. Bad cast member, worse life arc.

Then came Brian Doyle-Murray, Mary Gross, and Christine Ebersole, none of whom raised an eyebrow. Brad Hall was what they wanted when they got Dennis Miller; Miller was just better at doing it. (Hall stilll ranks as one of the big winners in the real world, for obvious marital reasons.) Christopher Guest was not any stronger, and when Lorne returned, he brought Miller with him.
