Even though we haven't completed the 16-game regular season most of us are accustomed to watching, we're seeing the accumulation of the compressed regular season. If my quick math is correct, 27 of the 32 teams have played on Thurs since week two (I'm not counting the Thurs night opener b/c both teams had more than a week of prep). The only ones who haven't played on a four-day week are the dogass Titans, Jags, Colts and Cardinals, plus, oddly, the Vikings. So we're seeing decent teams look like shit and pay the short- and long-term prices for quick turnarounds.

Flip side: There are nine teams with at least 10 wins in their first 15 games, but there's also 10 really shitty teams with at least 10 losses in their first 15 games.

Vikings played on Thursday night at the Rams in Week 8. Raiders and Panthers have also not played on the short week besides the other four you listed.

Meanwhile, 12 teams have twice played with only three days off: Bears, Broncos, Cowboys, Dolphins, Giants, Jets, Niners, Rams, Ravens, Seahawks, Steelers and Texans.

It happens earlier in the year as well. Seahawks lost 3 in 11 and I’m sure others have as well. It’s magnified because it’s Christmas.

My guess is that this happens more than we realize with the worst of the division champs. They're in and they know it by week 15 of 17 and the odds they can improve their lot are slim. Pretty much locked into the fourth seed. I was not impressed with the Texans, however.

Tell me the world doesn't need a guy who wins a HS football state championship as a coach, and then turns around and wins a Super Bowl as a QB.

Yup, actually more common than I thought. Besides the Chiefs, Steelers, Ravens and Texans just now doing it, five other teams did three games in 11 days (playing Monday, then Sunday, then Thursday): Jets (Weeks 1-3), Seahawks (Weeks 4-6), Saints (Weeks 5-7), Cowboys (Weeks 11-13) and Bears (Weeks 15-17).

The Ravens did get a really late bye. They were off before playing the Giants to start the stretch of three games in 11 days. It would have made more sense to have these four teams get their byes that Sunday, then play Saturday and Wednesday, but the league doesn't give a damn about players getting hurt.

I'm not sure how much it affected the results Wednesday. The Steelers have been exposed over the last three weeks. Their defense has fallen apart. They were missing one starter against the Chiefs, Joey Porter, and I don't think you can blame their stinker of a performance against the Chiefs on his absence.

The Texans haven't been great all year. They won their division early because their division sucks.

On the flip side, those teams now get 10 days off. And we'll see if the Chiefs play any of their starters in Week 18 at Denver. Maybe a half? If they don't play them, they'll go 3 1/2 weeks between games.
