Yeah, by 1979, he’d only have been fired twice by George.

The first night I put out the section by myself. THAT was fun.

Same night as the Bengals-Vikings Monday night finale. The first time there was an NFL game on Christmas.

If Bengals won, Bengals and Packers are in the playoffs… and Vikings and Steelers are eliminated.

If Vikings won, Vikings and Steelers are in the playoffs… and Bengals and Packers are eliminated.

Vikings won, crushing 12-year-old Gutter and the Majik Man-led Cardiac Pack.

Certainly not the first NFL game on Christmas. Chiefs-Dolphins played the longest NFL game -- in the playoffs, no less -- on Christmas 1971.

Watched from my grandparents' house in Detroit. A week later, we moved to the Bay Area. Dad had to rig a makeshift antenna at the rental house to see the Super Bowl.

Gleyber Torres to the Tigers. One year, $15 million.

I feel like that is not a contract anyone envisioned

Whoa. That came as a surprise.

Reading between the Lions, if Torres is playing second -- which is what's being reported on social media -- methinks Colt Keith is moving to first and Torkelson is getting moved. No way the Tigers move Keith back to third based on his minor league struggles there.

They still have prospect Jace Jung and veteran Matt Vierling to platoon at third if they don't sign Bregman. But this also might signal a move from GM Scott Harris that Detroit might be interested in someone like Santander to add another outfield bat, since Kerry Carpenter can't hit lefties and Wenceel Perez is barely replacement level offense in right.

This is something you expect gets reported after Harris already has a tentative deal that includes Torkelson in the package. Would the Cardinals bite for Arenado?

    There's another domino falling.

From Passan: Outfielder Teoscar Hernández and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a three-year, $66 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal includes a fourth-year option for $15 million, a little more than $23 million in deferred money and a $23 million signing bonus.

Again I ask: where are they going to play all these guys?

I want to say I'm a little surprised they torpedoed Torkelson's trade value by signing Torres first, but I think they probably know better than anyone that Torkelson's trade value is nil. I still think there's a chance there's something there--you always want to be a little cautious giving up on a 2020 draftee who missed his first season of pro ball b/c of the pandemic--but at the end of the day, Torkelson is a 25-year-old first baseman who offers no value if he's not hitting 30 homers a year. He's probably the type of guy who gets non-tendered a few times between now and free agency, when he'll find no offers at all.
