The ball doesn't know how old the club is.

I upgraded from my TaylorMade Super Steel irons to the M2 during the COVID but still love the feel of those old irons more.

I got a full fitting in March, my first time. I found it to be absolutely worth the money. Easily my most consistently good season. I still choked on the annual guys golf week. But that’s mental, with a nod to lack of sleep and booze. Always a highlight of my year.

But I gained 20 yards on the driver, 7-9 yards on irons and shaved 3-4 strokes per round.

I’m getting new irons this year. Retiring the old set of Callaway x-18.
I had a set of Ping Zing green dots before the Callaway’s. Had the 18’s for about 15 years.
May get the Titleist Gen 2’s……..my kid’s best friend sold him a Taylor-Made P-790 2-iron that he couldn’t hit for $75……the ball absolutely whistles off that face.

Ended up with the TaylorMade Sim 2 Max irons, 5-9 plus PW, AW, graphite shafts. Felt super smooth to swing compared to my old steel shafts. $200 off and managed to get the last set in the store. Almost seems like it was meant to be.

Good for you!! I went to graphite shafts in my irons around 20 yrs ago and I've never looked back. They're so much lighter and easier to load. Of course, I'm not good enough to require the exact precision that the steel shafts likely provide.

I have my late Dad's old Eye-2s, have thought over the years about sending them back to Ping to be refurbished with shafts similar to the 8-year-old Pings I play with now. Outside of getting used to yardages for the much weaker early-1980s lofts, I'm sure they'd still be great sticks.

In my basement are the set of Hogan woods and irons I got for a graduation present in 1972. They were Tour quality, well above my ability level and surely now, but my father saw my game through the eyes of a parent. I still keep the persimmon 4-wood in my bag for longish par threes, but mostly I just use my TaylorMade 3-metal now, I take the Hogan out of the bad to blow minds at the range. Heads turn when they hear the sound of club hitting ball.

My son is old enough I’ll have time to play again after a six-year hiatus. My clubs are out of date and my game rusty, so I don’t plan on pulling a driver out of the bag until mid-summer.

My buddy told me to give your kids the opportunity to love the game because it's going to be rare that you'll get 5 hours with them when they get older.

I've had to do other things with my two boys because both have decided it wasn't for them. (However my oldest is willing to play with me now that my application for membership at a local club (which will host the US Amateur) has been accepted.)

Enjoy the time with your son!!

I’m still hitting a Nike Vapor Driver from 2016.
I get it out about 270. All the boys are asking why I don’t upgrade it……listen dickheads……I couldn’t get one 300 with the flat bellies if I had a 20 mph wind up my ass.
