Rosalyn made the arrangements at least a decade ago. It is possible the funeral service will be at that little church in Plains. For sure that's where he'll be buried.

I'm sure I posted this earlier in the thread, but I saw him going to his home church when I was 8, I guess. I was far more interested in the Secret Service agents than him.

Carter was probably the right man for the wrong time. No one would have had a successful presidency in the late '70s. Typical US politics: someone tries to do the right thing and gets crucified for it.
    Good man.

I would think they'd hold something on Washington, then a smaller service/burial in Plains.

Rosalyn is buried on the property by their home in Plains, which is where he will be buried. At some point in the future the house will be opened to the public as part of the National Historical Site. (It sits about midway between downtown Plains and his boyhood farm.)

First president I can remember as a kid. My parents hated him (though they also loathed Nixon). I just remember misery, unfortunately. And, again, I was a kid. Inflation. Hostages. Olympics. Failed rescue attempt. They were all in on Reagan.

    RIP.

My parents were distraught when he lost to Reagan in 1980, although the economy was no great shakes for them either. That was when party identity was still affected at least as much by geography as ideology. Depending on how one views LBJ’s Texas, Carter was the first Southerner in the White House since Woodrow Wilson and that mattered a whole lot in this corner of the world.

We are close to the same age, I think, and my experience was similar. My view of Carter was skewed by my dad growing up. I honestly have no idea what his opinion of Reagan was, but he didn't like Carter. As I got older and earned the capacity to think for myself and evaluate events, I could draw distinction between Carter and the '70s in general, thus my earlier comment that he was in a no-win situation. I'm sure my dad had the capacity for nuance; he just never really applied it.
He probably didn't dislike Jimmy Carter. He just didn't like the '70s and blamed him for things not of his making. Heck, after my dad died last year, I was finally able to get rid of a 55-gallon drum of heating kerosene that he bought under the table from a trucker during the oil embargo.

The hostage crisis was a daily thing on the news every night when Cronkite would announce how long they'd been held.

The most important thing though was they call came home alive, probably because Carter had the common sense to negotiate instead of blowing Iran off the map.

And the Egyptians and Israelis still aren't fighting.

RIP to the first winning presidential candidate I ever voted for.

Talk about having it in the can: ABC has a 60-minute retrospective at 10 pm Eastern.
