Big news out of Raleigh. Mikko Rantanen heading to the Hurricanes – along with Taylor Hall from Chicago – for Martin Necas, Jack Drury and some picks, none of them first-rounders.
Looks like Avs doing an on the fly tuneup in the v short term. Rantanan is a deadly sniper but injury prone and not a complete 200 ft. guy. Canes will over pay resigning him.
Seriously doubt Eric Tulsky will pony up $14M for numerous seasons – I'm sure Team Rantanen will shoot for eight – with what the Hurricanes have. For the price they paid to get him for the balance of the season, letting someone else overpay him long-term following this campaign will not be viewed as an overall loss.
Thought I had read that he was 30 but after looking myself it’s 28. Avs impress one game then look fairly average the next from my 6 games or so a I’ve seen them on TV. They are in Calgary soon and it’s always different in person. The West is getting tougher and Avs can’t be satisfied with wild card spot and the forwards group looks average at best after Mackinnon and that’s not enough. They haven’t had exceptional goaltending either so maybe that’s going to get addressed, too. They are only +9 in goal differential, not exactly Av like. They have had a decent run but need new and better players IMO.
First off, LOL at the Caps being the fifth betting favorite to win the East right now. Watch the fucking games, FFS. Second, will be curious to see what moves Washington makes at the deadline. You can argue there's a move to be made to upgrade the third line, especially at center and right wing. Eller is limited and who knows if Ethen Frank can keep things going, or what eventual impact Milano can make. And defensive depth is never a bad thing but the top six is pretty strong. Goalie is set. Do you want to mess with the chemistry of this group right now? Injuries always appear at the worst times, so having depth isn't a bad thing, just not quite sure what pieces the Caps would move.
Caps sign Logan Thompson to a six-year extension. Nice. Capitals Re-sign Logan Thompson | Washington Capitals
