2024-25 College Basketball Thread

I don't know if it was Palm or Lunardi but two nights ago one of them said Drake won't make the tournament if it doesn't win the MVC championship. Crazy, they are now into the SF and are 28-3 overall. The MVC is a reputable conference, they won every game they played against P4 opponents (who wants to schedule them? No P4 team with a coach with brains), if you go 29-4 you should be in, even if you don't win the title. But Indiana State had a solid team and got snubbed last year, so I guess they better win.

They said the same thing about VCU. As much as it pains me to say it VCU should be a lock. They are outstanding.
The committee will have plenty of data to justify any decision on Drake.
The Bulldogs will have 28 or 29 wins as at-large candidates. Among them is a neutral-court victory at Vanderbilt. Before today, the Wins Above Bubble data point had them at plus-0.79 -- just above Gonzaga, San Diego State and UNC. That would change with a loss in the next two days. Don't know how much.
Non-Con SoS is 249th. That's what will be held out there as justification for exclusion. That and the fact that the chair is the UNC AD.

About 15 years ago, Fallon went all in on the Chattanooga Mocs when they made the NCAA tourney. Because of the odd nickname, I presume.

FYI, the name comes from a big U-turn in the Tennessee River called Moccasin Bend right near downtown Chattanooga.

Dear photogs,

When shooting women's basketball, please cease and desist with the swirling hair photos. I get that they look cool at first, but when you get several from a single game, well, we're getting into cliche land. Not to mention that those pix that obscure the face are unusable for the most part anyway. Also, do we base photos at men's games around physical features? I'm awaiting the dude who wears his hair long with the swirling photo, but strangely enough I never see it! I wonder why? Anyway, enough with this ship.

Yours,
YMCA

It's a joke. A bubble filled with extremely mediocre power conference bubble teams with below .500 records against Quads 1-2 will get chosen. The pooch screwing is upon us.

My rule would be that if you're not .500 or better against Quad 1-2, you're out as fas as being an at-large is concerned. Quad 3-4 losses are added to the percentage too. This will not happen, but it should.

Mizzou has forgot how to play basketball, but they're expert at sucking deck. Worthless. Sacks. Of. ship.

My first reaction seeing OU's conference record midweek was "no way in hell do these guys belong." But what was ashumed to be a weak non-conference schedule has aged like wine with neutral court wins against Arizona, Louisville and Michigan.

If they can beat Texas today and then win three in Nashville to reach the semis, that's nine league wins and 22-13 overall. I don't think you can leave them out with that record. And this is your annual reminder that teams are not punished based off their position in the conference standings.
