    Why gay-pride parades are wrong:
Our city's was a few weeks ago. Two guys stood quietly on the sidewalk, holding signs that said Sodomy Is Wrong. One of the parading gay fellows jumped the guys and started pummelling the smaller one.
In the aftermath, Global was interviewing people and one fellow looked dead into the camera and said: "This country is about free expression and we have a right to it." Or something like that.
The irony was not lost on me. Matter of fact, I still find it funny to this day. Those fellows with the signs (whether anyone agrees with them or not) were standing on the sidewalk freely expressing their viewpoint. And got the shit kicked out of themselves for it.
By people demanding their right to free expression.

    I fear the future.

Just got off the phone with the city editor. She said the dozen protestors were not enough to write a story about it. When I was interviewing people at the parade, one lady told me that she had heard we weren't covering the parade by someone on the inside. I want to know who is on the inside telling people our reasonings behind not covering events. The TV stations around here will have the story. They were all about interviewing people, but we won't because a dozen was not enough.

I did find it funny when one of the organizers was on stage. It was pouring rain the entire time, and he said "Don't worry. You have been saved because your sins have been washed away!" It was humorous.

So yeah, definitely have an easier day than I thought now that I know the gay parade is off the budget. It's my day off and I was only coming in to help out our part-timer who is a really good friend. I'm too nice sometimes.

Definitely sounds like a non-story, S-pup. Re: Flash's story, I think it says a lot about where we are as a society, that it sure feels like a lot of people just don't care how they get what they want, as long as they get what they want. That the ends always justify the means, no matter the cost or the loss of dignity, which simply isn't true. There seems to be less social responsibility, less a sense of the greater good, even for a worthy cause (which I believe equality for gays to be.) Gay people can't go around beating up protestors for being anti-gay any more than anti-gays can go around beating up gays for being gay. [/endofsociologicalrant]

I agree, but we knew it was going to be a non-story to begin with. So while I write my other story, our part-timer and I are listening to The Fray. Great times.

Free expression only seems to matter to the people who are expressing their opinions. If anyone dissents, they are phobic of something or another.
    Sheer lunacy.
