It's important to the members of the board, actually. Some of our fellow SportsJournalists.commers are quite well-known either in the field or on the beats they cover --- some so much so that it would be difficult for them to "be themselves" here if their real names were known. And even among the lesser-knowns, it's a fact that being anonymous here makes it easier to talk about issues in the journalism business without worrying about retribution from the companies they work for.

(It's the same reason the Tuscaloosa thread on the jobs board was sanitized and locked down last weekend, as a matter of fact.)
