    Vern,

Exactly what part of my post was inacurate?

The part where you ignore the job opportunity to tell the other posters what they already know: The P-G has a higher circulation than the Trib and, in general, it has better beat writers. No one disputed that. But for some reason, you seem to enjoy stating the obvious. I'm not saying this is the be-all-and-end-all of NFL beats, but it's not a bad opportunity, no matter what the circulation is. So please, stop with your childish remarks. You sound like a bitter twenty-something still looking for his first full-time job.

I wonder if they would consider a Steelers beat writer from another area paper. There is the Beaver County Times and Observer-Reporter in Washington. Can't say for sure the Times has a Steelers beat writer, but I know the O-R does.

If they're going to raid other papers, they should have gone after John Perotto (sp?) to replace Rutter on the Pirates. Then again, he'd probably have to take a pay cut to do it. :D

What about this Jim Wexell? I hear a lot of good things about him. Are they legit?

    Wexell, sure.

If you like guys with a few marks on their record. We'll leave it at that.

Wexell is fantastic and, in my opinion, has the best handle of the Steelers of any of the beat writers. He runs a Web site for the Steelers on Scout.com which, as a Steeler fan, I swear by.

But from my understanding, the Trib snubbing him before is part of the reason he's doing what he does now. I don't know if he'll go back there ... ever.

Gotta love guys who hint at character issues on a jobs message board, but are kind enough to "leave it at that."

JuneBug does tend to be a bit negative ;)

Wexell has burned a few bridges, but I'm not sure all of that was his fault. I wish I knew more about this stuff, but I'd hate to see him get a bad rap based on a vague comment like that.
