Sports Editor, Amarillo, TX

Here's your chance to supervise the sports section for a mid-sized daily where Friday Night Lights is played live every week.
The Amarillo Globe-News, (50,000 daily circ., 60,000 Sunday) a Morris Communication newspaper in the Texas Panhandle, is searching for a Sports Editor to join our staff.

In the Texas Panhandle, high school sports are huge, but we are also home to West Texas A&M University, Amarillo College, minor league baseball and hockey, as well as arena football.

The future sports editor will be a versatile leader who can motivate and coach a talented staff. He/she will be able to think visually and is innovative in print as well as the online product, including multi-media presentation. We're looking for someone who understands the importance of sports in our region and someone who will foster sports coverage on Page 1, as well as in the daily sports report. If you understand that a '20-inch gamer' is the least effective way to engage today's reader and that sports is often as much about business as recreation, we want to hear from you.

The chosen candidate will excel in working with other departments in the paper as collaboration and playing as a team member is crucial to success on the newsroom management team. You also know the wide world of sports is not its own universe separate from the rest of the newsroom.

A Bachelor's degree in communications or related field is preferred along with previous newspaper experience.
