This process isn't as close as it could be after all this time. I wouldn't be surprised if they stay inside after all.

Unfortunately, it has become a laughing stock and one way of keeping cost down. It's a shame because Richmond and the people at the T-D deserve better.

I'm told the latest update is... No offer has been made. The position is still waiting final approval from corporate.

Ah, corporate. God forbid should a paper need, you know, a sports editor. It's been what, four full months?

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the corporate headquarters located in the same city, perhaps even the same building?

    This is beyond absurd.

Guess I'm missing something. Why Tampa?

MG HQ is across the street from the T-D. My guess is the honchos are contemplating whether Richmond gets an SE at the Third Street Diner, feasting on beans and franks and PBR.

Well, we can finally put this thread to bed. Just had this announcement sent to me from Richmond...

Michael J. Harris, a veteran writer and editor for Richmond daily newspapers, has been named sports editor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Harris, 50, joined the staff of The Richmond News Leader in 1978 as a sportswriter. From 1978 until 1992, he covered a variety of prep and college sports and also was a columnist.

In 1992, The News Leader merged with The Times-Dispatch. Since then, Harris has covered a variety of beats and events for The Times-Dispatch, including two Olympics.

His work has won numerous Virginia Press Association awards. In 2003, Harris was named assistant sports editor while continuing to cover Virginia Tech sports.

On Aug. 16, Harris was named acting sports editor. He replaces Jack Berninger, who retired as Times-Dispatch sports editor on June 1.

During the transition, Harris will continue to cover Virginia Tech until early November.

    They chose HIM!?!?!

Actually of course I'm kidding. Great, great guy and the right choice for Richmond. Of course I say that knowing I'll never have to feel his wrath either. Hahaha. Good for Mike, and good for Richmond though.
