    Third episode, not so good.

In Amanda Peets speech to the media she said that the people that make television aren't smarter than the people that watch it. Then they have the story line about the overly highbrow sketch, and how so few viewers are smart enough to get it. Don't they keep track of previous episodes?

The show lost me as a "we'll show how the left wing Hollywood types really are smarter than the red staters" diatribe.

I agree totaly on the Sarah Paulson casting. If you're doing a show where the people are comedy geniuses, you might want to cast people that are, you know, funny.

My favorite part (a small one):

Matt, Danny and one of the actors are standing around talking when Danny says: "Can we talk about this, moving?"

Making fun of those who criticize your writing style = hilarity for me.

(Yeah, I might have read WAY too much into that line, but it worked for me!)

Just because she said it in a press conference while spinning a live-tv blowup by the producer doesn't mean it's going to hold true when they actually start making the show. Besides, the moral of the story was in the end the sketch was funny enough audience despite what the focus group said.

Was I the only one who got the impression that when Matt drove off at the end of the episode, he was on the way to doing something stupid?

I think that was a great ending. . . especially with the music.

Everything is going great and Matt knows that it will be impossible to keep it that way. The demons in Sorkin's life that prevents him from sustaining greatness are on the horizon for Matt. What will they be?

They made a couple of references to how Matt can't possibly write 90 minutes every week without burning out, which is almost exactly what happened to Sorkin on the West Wing (and other shows). Sorkin would get behind and end up dropping scripts at the last possible second and make the cast scurry to catch up and be ready. Factor in the drugs and related legal problems and the product eventually suffered and caused the network to step in and replace him.

This episode really sets up the rest of the season (seriously, it does).

Actually, I was thinking more something drug related... just struck me as if something was going to come of that drive he was about to take.

I didn't really get that impression. It struck me as more of the neurotic writer wondering if the fans "will still love me tomorrow" (as the song so perfectly pointed out). He just seemed to wonder how long he can maintain the funny and successful start he got off to.

Just want to add that I'm happy the Crazy Christians sketch wasn't shown.

That said, I really liked the Science Schmience game show.

And for all the Sarah Paulson haters, I think she's damn funny and that Holly Hunter impression was spot on. I so wanted to watch Broadcast News afterward.

I got the feeling he was pissed because he's still in love with his ex and seeing her dance with his best friend meant it was time to go.
And the line about how you can't write the show by yourself, if you try, you'll burn out by six episodes was classic.
I gotta be honest, the bit about the bear cracked me up.

I think that was a nod to the previous episode when Harriet said Matt would go "nuts" if he saw her dancing with Danny.

It was a good episode (not better than the previous, but you can't expect each week to top the previous) and, as was mentioned earlier, sets up the season fairly well. Curious to see where they are going to go with Jordan's ex, the "tell-all" book and the whole sex club thing ...
