    It's obstruction, not interference.

The rule states that it's the fielder's responsibility to avoid the path of the baserunner unless that fielder is making a play on the ball.

I know what the rule says but I think the rule is stupid. If said obstruction is inadvertent, it shouldn't be called. And what does the rule book say about how far out of the baseline a runner can be?

Every runner who scores from second takes the path Rolen took. Runners don't tour the bases in straight lines.

If you know what the rule says, you should know why it was called obstruction.

It's a good rule and it worked well. It would have been an injustice had Rolen been called out on that play because Inge got in his way.

  5. A pipedream, but a dream nonetheless: World Series day games. I'm not sure there's anything I would've liked better this afternoon than to have some brunch, plop down, and take in a baseball game on my sun-lit couch. Oh, wait, yes: actually attending a daytime WS game.

I see Casty's point on the obstruction call, though. That was a fairly wide turn Rolen took coming around third and Inge clearly wasn't trying to obstruct him. How wide does Rolen get to go and still have Inge be responsible for getting out of his way? Seems like there has to be some limit on the baserunner's path.

Work on a closer with a blown save getting a win.

THEN we perhaps can talk about obstruction of a player running the bases as bananas.

You have to award the win to someone.

    Who would you suggest?

I know you are a dense fucker, but that was the point.

One's a real problem with the rules.

    The other isn't.

Same criteria as a starting pitcher not going 5 in a win.

    Most deserving, effective pitcher.

Awarding a win to a reliever who blows a save is a real problem? Why?
It doesn't affect the outcome of the game--as the obstruction rule can -- it is simply bookkeeping.
Christ, you get fucking dumber my the minute.
