I'm thinking that news might interfere with the "Smith for Heisman" campaign they've been running all season.

Did it get announced? I thought all that was announced at the College Awards ceremony on Thursday, by which time pretty much all the Heisman votes will be in. Either way, I think there is a difference between the best quarterback and best player.

Don't get set up, guys. The Unitas Award mentions "scholarship and citizenship," so the worst of ND's fans are drooling over themselves about Quinn getting the nod over Smith, the black thug.

So, Pringle, I take it the award hasn't been announced yet?

No, it has been. But Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso and Mark May conclaved to determine whether they should squelch the news in order to make sure Brady Quinn remained underexposed ::)

I see. Is it going to be part of the college awards show on ESPN next week, like the Butkus, Groza and others? Maybe they want it to be a surprise to those who don't pay that close attention to awards that get announced early.

Come on, BullBoi, you know that awards like the Unitas Award are consolation prizes for the guys who don't win the Heisman. Smith went out and earned the Heisman this year, fair and square. A lot of factors have to fall into place for a player to win it - and quarterbacks aren't allowed to play their worst in their biggest game, like Quinn did. Ask Drew Brees.

Carson Palmer won the Unitas and the Heisman. I think Jason White did, too, but maybe in successive years.
