  1. That might be the thing the Dodgers were waiting on in order to complete a trade for Manny Ramirez. My guess is Brad Penny, Jonathan Broxton (who would be the new closer for the Sox) and either James Loney or Matt Kemp for Man-Ram.

Edit: On second thought - maybe Andre Ethier would take the place of Loney or Kemp since Ethier is a lefty and could platoon with the righty Wily Mo in left field.

People are throwing absolutely insane money around for players who just aren't worth the price.

An Adam LaRoche for Mike Gonzalez swap - a win-win for both sides, in my opinion -- is on hold. For now.

  4. I don't like that trade from the Braves point of view. A starting 1st baseman who is just 27-years old and can hit 30+ HR with a .900+ OPS is more valuable than a closer with a history of injuries.

Good trade for the Pirates if they can pull it off.

That would be an all-time awful trade for the Braves.

    An all-timer.

    I think it's pretty close. I think you're underestimating Gonzalez's value.

I think he only "history" injury wise is a sore elbow at the end of last year, but he was throwing at normal speeds in side sessions as the year was ending. Must not be hurt that bad.

I like Gonzalez. When you don't win many games, you need to save the few you get a chance to close out. LaRoche has had one good year, and that worries me because it seems like the Braves are selling high here.

  9. Yeah - I've kinda changed my mind on this one. After thinking about it for a moment – I asked myself if I would favor a Wily Mo Pena trade for Mike Gonzalez and I think I would go for that transaction. Pena is even younger than LaRoche and just a big a threat to hit a HR every AB. You also have to consider that the fate of the NL East seems to turn on who has the most reliable closer these past five or six years and that the Braves have Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the wings to play first (he’s just to big to play catcher).

  10. Anyone hear anything about a Braves deal with Seattle that would be Rafael Soriano-for-Horacio Ramirez?

That would seem to be a great trade for Atlanta.

    No, I'm not.

Lefty closers are very iffy, and his health is a major questionmark.

Salomon Torres was a better closer on the same team.
