    having a brain lapse on people who followed legends and were promptly showed the door...

    guys like Gary Gibbs behind Switzer at Oklahoma and Frank Solich at Nebraska....any basketball references out there?

    Another football: Ray Goff followed Vince Dooley.

    Tubby Smith was working his way toward legend status at Georgia -- not hard to do with the program's crappy history -- when he left for Kentucky. Ron Jirsa replaced him and lasted two or three years.

    Ron Zook at Florida.

    Doug Williams at Grambling might count.

    Bill Guthridge followed Dean Smith at UNC . . . . . . had a couple good years, but his poor recruiting is often blamed for the program hitting rock bottom under Matt Doherty.

    Whose recruits, of course, led the team to the 2005 NCAA title. Which is more recent than 2001, for you Dookies out there. . . . . . .
