So much for the Bush legacy

    I think we've seen and weathered the worst of it. It's always been rough and tumble, even destructive, but our political culture has not been so overtly vicious in a long time. We need it to be far less toxic and we're getting there. We've also seen a stippling effect in the electorate, and that's a good sign.

    Good post, Jay. We are a nation of duality, and we always have been.

    In fact, before slavery (although influenced by slavery at varying levels), before this country even existed, the fight was between federal power and states' power when they were setting up the Constitution.

    Unfortunately, we are entrenched in a two-party system, which makes it virtually impossible for all but the most fringe issues to be discussed without it becoming some form of dualistic debate (us vs. them, right vs. wrong, good vs. evil.)
