    Mr Sole,

Re: posting on this thread. As a child I was told I'd go blind -- not that it stopped me. I am tempted by nothing other than temptation. I would not post on this thread if I was any good at crossword puzzles--really it's only a measure of how much spare time I have. Zealotry ... hardly. The fact is, I have no interests, no friends and only bills to pay. Please allow me my single amusement.

Rather than waste my time googling the 15 names you cite, how about just posting the fighters officially listed by UFC at their own website? You can work out the ratio of Hinkles to Hironakas at your own convenience. The question stands.

Wow, that's a lot of names.
And I completely wasted five minutes of my life reading this thread.
But, take your fight to the AP and Vegas. Getting a betting line established, will make the sport more worthy of coverage. And when people start gambling on it, the AP will start covering it, or at least the big fights like they do boxing.

Re: "60 Minutes" piece on UFC/MMA

The three biggest MMA organisations in the world are Pride FC, K-1 Heroes and the UFC.

Two of the big three are based in Japan. The Asian fighters, the majority of them, are competing in Japan. Put it this way. On August 28, 2002 a super show put on by both Pride and K-1 drew 91,107 paying spectators to the Tokyo National Stadium. MMA is a very big in Japan. The Asian fighters don't tend to, on the whole, pop up on UFC cards because MMA is very big in Japan and they have no need to travel.

Thank you. That's all I was asking.

Are the fight rules the same in those other organizations? And are the fighters there, on the whole, better/worse/the same as our UFC fighters here?

Re: "60 Minutes" piece on UFC/MMA

Disciplines in martial arts reflect the practicing cultures view over the rules of ritualized combat. No need to go into the history of martial arts in each culture, the answer is simple. UFC started with the premise of having different disciplines fight, the rules were open so that the fights would be fair.

Vegas's biggest books have had betting lines on UFC for years.

You're right. Or wrong. I'm not sure. ;D

The thing people of niche sports (and yes UFC/MMA is still a niche sport) don't understand is how important the wire services are. You get Vegas AP to move some copy on UFC and I promise papers across the nation will run it.

Re: "60 Minutes" piece on UFC/MMA

True, but I have never seen them on the betting line that runs in any of the papers I have ever seen. When people start betting, they need to see the results the next day. If UFC gets put on the lines that run on the wires, then you'll start seeing next day results in the paper.
Until then, it is, at best, a circular argument.

    Sirs, Madames,

I have seen the promised land: I am going to write stories about the UFC and MMA and nothing else. They are the only stories worth writing and the only stories worth reading. All other stories and sports are mere trivia. We have in UF and MMA the essence of the Darwinian saga. Nothing else could possibly matter. And the guys with the bad facial hair and tattoos are cool.

    I have been saved!

Wait, for this argument to be relevant wouldn't people who watch MMA/UFC have to be literate?
