Splitting infinitives ... gives me splitting headaches. Yet, like an earlier poster noted, a lot of things are just getting by these days that maybe wouldn't in previous years.

It bothers me to see an editor just write a sentence for his/her read-out deck, and let it fall where it may. But it does seem to be the way more often than not these days.

It depends. Do you want to put out a professional newspaper?
Dangling prepositions make headlines hard to read. Leave a hyphen hanging at the end of a line of a headline and I'll hunt you down.

 

To me, this just comes down to, there is a better way.

You head-fit on a 4-48 one-line head. Why would you NOT head-fit on a 1-14 three-line deck? A head is a head.
