    Oooh, my favorite bonus story:

For two straight years, Podunk Press gave out $25 bonus cards to Cabela's. Cabela's is an outdoors sporting goods store, basically a poor man's Bass Pro.

Here's the catch: The closest Cabela's was (and is) in Wheeling, W. Va. ... 600 miles away.

Here's the catch, II: there was a real Bass Pro 13.5 miles from our building at the time, four exits down on the interstate. Fucken eh.

I was watching a CNN brief on the insane bonuses investment bankers are getting this year. Normal office folk can expect a half-mil to $25 mil, while CEOs are expecting in the neighborhood of $40 mil. They interviewed real estate agents and luxury car dealers who said they are seeing an increase in business because of the holiday bonuses.

Made me want to puke. I know life isn't fair, but fuck...

  5. I don't want to be a lawyer or an investment banker. I know people like that. So do you. The people I know are always worrying about their career and the pressure and all that dumb shit. Not me. I just write and hang out with my girls and play xbox and workout have a grand ol' time. That's my bonus -- enjoying my life a whole hell of a lot.

We don't get official bonuses here. I don't care. That's not their role. My wife also works for a large corporation (child-care industry) and they don't get anything. So it goes.

Haven't had a bonus in years, but ONCE upon a time, for seven years when I was in Hartford, the Courant gave between 3 weeks and 6 weeks for a bonus....they stopped that 2 years after I left though, I think.

I've held four full-time gigs in this business. Well, technically three. The only times I've gotten anything from an employer around the holidays was a small gift card this year and years ago at the not-so-full-time place where I got a week's pay. Considering myself lucky to even get that.

i'm in law school and i have a part-time job as a clerk at a small law firm. i got a $250 bonus this year. i was surprised considering i only work two days a week and i've only been there since late september. apparently the firm had a great year.

i'm dying to know what the lawyers got but i won't ask and they won't tell me. hopefully i'll get to see for myself this time next year.

I used my $10 gift card to buy resume paper.

Don't I-bankers and those types get most of their yearly salary as a bonus? Like I'll say if someone makes $300,000 in a year, they probably had a $100,000 base salary and $200,000 end of year bonus. But my knowledge of high finance, much like my knowledge of love and friendship, is pretty much limited to fictional writing.
