I don't give a fuck about martial arts.

I do, however, support the right of any state to not allow choking as a sanctioned form of entertainment.

But by all means, continue trying to educate me.

If any of you are interested in learining more about the people who actually get in the cage and fight, this just came to my attention:

If you don´t like martial arts in general, that´s fine. Just one question: do you like boxing? If so, you very much give a fuck about martial arts.

First of the MSNBC documentaries on MMA.

It's fairly interesting though it does contain some of the usual inaccuracies such as claiming that new rules, such as weight classes, were added in 2002.

Also, for those who are interested, a couple of days ago the "LA Times" ran a very good piece on Mirko "Cro-Cop" Filipovic who is, arguably, the biggest signing in the 13 year history of the UFC.

If boxing were to go away tomorrow, I wouldn't care.

It´s not gone, but this list is telling - the UFC has in 2006 been able to put together top 10-worthy PPV´s on a roughly bi-monthly basis while boxing, although still the top dog in an absolute sense cannot maintain that tempo of buys. The WWE is also struggling.

Note this is only january to october, and thus does not include the Georges St. Pierre vs Matt Hughes II and Chuck Liddell vs Tito Ortiz II PPV´s of November and December. Both are expected to top all other UFC PPV´s this year but the numbers aren´t out yet.

Boxing as a sport will never go away - it will continue to be a thriving amateur and professional sport. It may not be the PPV king for much longer however.

Harris Interactive's annual survey of favorite sports is out today. The question was "If you had to choose, which ONE of these sports would you say is your favorite?" Boxing got 1 percent, track and field, men's tennis and men's soccer all got 2 percent.

MMA has a long, long way to go before it deserves much coverage.

And soccer will grow much faster that whatever we're calling glorified bar fighting today.

Not gonna stop that hispanic influx...

I don't know that this is a valid barometer. What percentage of the people who buy a UFC pay per view every month or watch a special on Spike actually consider MMA their single favorite sport? If they're otherwise football or baseball fans or whatever they're not likely to pick the sport they watch once or twice a month as their single favorite.
